Scrimmage Offers Taste Of E-Hawk Football

Emmetsburg football fans were given a little taste of what the upcoming gridiron season will be like last Friday night with the annual sports drink scrimmages at Duane Twait Field. The Emmetsburg Freshmen, ?Sophomore and Varsity E-Hawks scrimmaged under game conditions to prepare themselves and their fans for this week’s season opener at ?Estherville Lincoln Central.

“We saw some promising things,”?noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “There are things that still need work that we will address this week to get ready for our first game.”

In the nightcap of the evening, the White squad of varsity players would defeat their Black squad counterparts by a 12-0 tally in their two-quarter long scrimmage.

The White team would score in the first quarter off a 42-yard touchdown reception by Justin Studer. The conversion attempt failed for a 6-0 lead with just over 4:00 to go in the quarter. 

The second quarter would see the White team, guided by quarterback Cory Schultes, come up with another score with 9:50 to go, as Marcus Akridge took a handoff and raced 69 yards for a score. The conversion try failed for a 12-0 lead.

The Black shirts, guided by quarterback Ryan Kliegl, would get on the scoreboard with 6:18 to go off a 41-yard pass reception by Nick Wuebker, but the conversion attempt failed, making the score 12-6.

The White team would threaten a final score as time wound down, with Jake Carlson making a 37 yard reception at the five yard line, but time ran out to end the scrimmage.
