Fall Sports Begin This Week

By Staff | Aug 24, 2010

The waiting is over – the pre-season has passed. It’s time for the Fall sports season to officially begin this week around the area.

For Emmetsburg student athletes, Wednesday marks the first day of classes for the new school year, but action on the courts and on the field wil start in earnest tonight.

Emmetsburg’s Cross Country teams will run their first meet of the season tonight at the Spencer Invitational.

For the Lady E-Hawk Volleyball team, action starts Thursday evening with a match at Manson Northwest Webster, and then a Saturday appearance in the Sheldon Tournament.

Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks will open the 2010 football campaign with a short trip up Highway Four to meet up with old foes, the Midgets of Estherville Lincoln Central in the first of two non-district games during the season. Kickoff for Friday’s season opener at Hoyt Luithly Field in Estherville will be 7 p.m.

Around the county, the three football teams will all be on the road for their season-opening games as well. At West Bend-Mallard, the Wolverines  open their campaign with a non-district matchup against the Vikings of Ventura at Ventura on Friday night.

The Ruthven-Ayrshire Raiders will travel south to take on the Musangs of Newell-Fonda in a non-district contest Friday evening, and the Graettinger/Terril Knights will start their season on the road with a trip to Remsen to take on Remsen-Union in a non-district tilt on Friday night.
