Emmetsburg 2-1 At Storm Lake
STORM?LAKE – Playing in their final weekend tournament prior to the start of the post season, Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks finished with a 2-1 mark at the Storm Lake Classic on Saturday.
Playing a preview of their post-season opener, Emmetsburg previewed a potential 2011 lineup in taking a 13-4 win over Sioux Central.
With freshman Rachel Schroeder in the circle, the Lady E-Hawks reeled off 12 hits in the victory. Schroeder went seven innings, surrendering four runs off nine hits with two strikeouts, receiving good defensive support from the Lady E-Hawks.
Aley Berven had three hits, while Morgan Vlasman added two hits. Nichole Hasbrouck, Kendall Corley, Kinsey Anderson, Miranda Vlasman, Whitney Kibbie, Jenny Hoch and Jacque Carlson all added hits to the effort.
Against Sioux City North, Emmetsburg earned a 5-0 shutout win in the second game, pounding out 10 hits in the win. Maddison Woodruff went the distance, giving up six hits and striking out 11 batters.
Hillary Pico had three hits, while Woodruff and Corley both added two hits each. Alex Lock, Nichole Hasbrouck and Jenny Hoch all came up with hits in the winning effort.
In the final game of the tourney, Emmetsburg came up a run short to Westwood of Sloan, falling 3-4 through the international tiebreaker in the ninth inning after playing to a 0-0 tie after seven innings. Both teams scored a run in the eighth, but Emmetsburg would fall on a fly ball with two left on base to the ninth-ranked team in Class 2A.
