Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks put up a good fight in a 5-0 Lakes Conference loss to Storm Lake on Monday night. Then on Tuesday, a scrappy Sioux Central ballclub handed the E-Hawks a 16-6 setback. The  losses give Emmetsburg a 1-15 mark as they continue to play for their first league win of the season.

Against the Tornadoes on Monday, the E-Hawks generated five hits in the contest, as Austin Oppenheimer took the loss on the hill. In his six innings of work, Oppenheimer surrendered eight hits for five runs, with three earned, while striking out four Storm Lake batters.

Emmetsburg’s hitting came from Tyeler Henderson, who was two for three, while Jake Jackson, Austin Dunnick and Austin Bonnstetter each added a hit to the effort.

Tuesday night the E-Hawks hosted the Rebels of Sioux Central in a non-conference tilt and came up short by a 16-6 tally in six  innings.

Jake Jackson would square off against the Rebels on the hill for Emmetsburg, and would go three and two-third innings in the contest, giving up 12 runs, nine of which were earned, with 10 hits, two strikeouts and three walks. Brady Berkland relieved for an inning and a third, allowing three runs with five walks and a strikeout. Austin Dunnick pitched the final inning, allowing one run off one hits, with three walks.

Sioux Central would jump out to a 5-1 lead after the first inning, and added five more runs in the top of the third as the E-Hawks clawed out two runs in the bottom of the third for a 10-3 tally.

In the fourth, the Rebels added two more runs and three more in the fifth before Emmetsburg pushed fourth runs over the plate in the fifth, but a final run by the Rebels in the sixth would end the game as the E-Hawks were retired in order.

Brady Berkland had a double and single for the E-Hawks, while Austin Dunnick added a pair of hits. Austin Oppenheimer, Jake Jackson, Tyler Henderson, Austin Bonnstetter and Brady Christenson all added base hits to Emmetsburg’s effort.

The E-Hawks will host Spencer on Friday night.
