E-Hawks Sooo Close At LeMars

By Staff | Jun 15, 2010

LeMARS – It’s always  tough on a team to make a long road trip and come up with a win. Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks almost managed the feat Wednesday night when they journeyed to LeMars to meet the Bulldogs, but came up a run short in a 12-11 heartbreaker.

The loss dropped the E-Hawks to 1-9 overall on the year and 0-4 in the Lakes Conference race.

The contest was back and forth all game long, as one team would score and have the score answered soon afterwards.

The E-Hawks  got a solid pitching job from Jake Carlson, who  would strike out six batters and issue six walks in the contest, while giving up just three earned runs out of the 12 scored by the Bulldogs, and surrendering just six hits in the process.

However, errors at most inopportune times would crush the E-Hawk effort, including a pair of miscues in the fifth inning and a pair of  double play attempts that would have ended innings and denied the Bulldogs scores.

For the E-Hawks, Jake Carlson would come away with three of four hits, including a double in the contest. Jake Jackson had two for three in the hitting department, while Brady Berkland also went two for three with a double to his credit.

Tyler Henderson had a pair of RBI hits in the contest in four appearances at the plate and Austin Oppenheimer came up with a two RBI single in his four at-bats in the contest.

In all, Emmetsburg came up with 14 hits total in the contest.

“We  just need to put together the complete game,”?noted E-Hawk Head Coach Mike Brennan. “Our pitching is  coming along and we can hit the ball. We just have to put the elements together in the right way.”
