GARNER – Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks went into the post season with one goal – to keep playing golf and earn a return to the Girls State Tournament.

Check that goal off the list.

Coach Ted Riley’s squad now has a date to host the Class 2A Regional tournament this coming Monday, May 24, at the Five Island Golf Course, and the Lady E-Hawks will be on the links after winning the 2A District meet at Garner on Monday, May 17.

Emmetsburg walked away from the outing with a team score of 368, some 42 strokes ahead of second-place Garner-Hayfield, who shot a 410 stroke total on their home course.

The low five individuals from the district will compete at the Regional meet for the right to play at the State Meet as an individual. On Monday, Emmetsburg Jana Hoch earned the runner-up medal honors at Garner, while teammate Megan Myers placed fifth overall.

“It was a great effort by our team,” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Ted Riley. “Jana Hoch and Megan Myers led the way and qualified for the individual medal competition at the Regional as well, and I’m very proud of the entire team’s effort.”

On Monday, Emmetsburg got a solid effort from Jana Hoch, as the senior turned in rounds of 47 and 42 to tally an 89, one stroke behind Garner-Hayfield’s Karah Huinker, who shot an 88.

After Hoch’s 89, teammate Megan Myers came up with one of her best rounds of the year, as she shot a 46 and 45 to tally a 91 stroke total.

Clarion-Goldfield placed fifth with a 425, while West Hancock was sixth with a 432. Sioux Central finished seventh with a 440 and Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer was eighth with a 468.
