E-Hawks Sending Four Events To State Track Championships

GARNER – Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks will be represented by a quartet of events to the State Track and Field Championships a the end of this week. The qualifications for one relay and three individual events were earned at Friday’s Class 2A District Track meet at Garner.

Earning the magic trip to the state meet at Drake University later this week will be the E-Hawks Shuttle Hurdle Relay team, as well as Jake Morris in the 110 high hurdles, Joey Naig in the 400 hurdles and Cory Schultes in the 200 meter dash.

Schultes would place second overall in the 200  meters on Friday, finishing with a time of :23.10 to qualify for the state meet, while in the 400 meter hurdles, Joey Naig also placed second overall, turning in a time of :57.49 to qualify for the big show.

The E-Hawks Shuttle Hurdle, which was denied a chance to go to state last year, got their redemption Friday night with a second place finish in a time of 1:00.59. The relay is comprised of Joey Naig, Ryan Kliegl, Jake Stubbs and ?Jake Morris.

Jake Morris earned a double qualification by placing third in the 110 high hurdles, finishing in a time of :15.69 to round out the state qualifiers.

In other finishes, Cory Schultes took eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of :11.75. In the 400 meter dash, Chad Loomis placed eighth with a time of :56.53. Bobby Gappa ran the 800 meters in a time of 2:18.50 to finish 15th overall.

Joey Naig finished a tick off the pace in the 110 hurdles, placing fourth with a time of :15.88. ?Austin Oppenheimer placed seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with his time of 2:59.80.

In the 4×100 relay, the foursome of Brady Berkland, Ryan Kliegl, Jake Stubbs and Cory Schultes finished fourth with a time of :46.34. ?The same foursome of Berkland, Kliegl, Stubbs and Schultes then ran the 4×200 and placed eighth, turning in a time of 1:37.92.

 In the 4×400 relay, Justin Studer, Andrew Wellik, Clayton Henderson and Chad Loomis finished eighth with a time of 3:44.22. The Distance Medley Relay, with Jake Morris, Jake Stubbs, Andrew Wellik and Jared Janssen, finished ­in sixth place in a time of o3:56.66.

In Field events, Ryan Kliegl placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 5’8”, while Brady Berkland took fourth in the long jump, leaping 19’9.75”, and Jake Morris placed 11th by leaping 17’1.5”.

Tyler Henderson finished 13th in the shot put, throwing 39’3/4”, while Andrew Garrelts finished 16th with a throw of 36’9.75”

In the discus, Andrew Garrelts threw 117’3” for 13th place and Jacob Hutchinson finished 15th with a throw of 104’4”.

State Track is this week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
