E-Hawks Run At Spencer Relays
SPENCER – Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks competed in Thursday’s Spencer Relays and finished in fourth place in the team standings behind LeMars, Sheldon and the host Spencer Tigers.
The E-Hawks earned a first place finish in the 200 meter dash from Cory Schultes, as he blazed his way to a :23.25 time in the event to win.
Emmetsburg got a second place finish from Jake Morris in the 110 High hurdles, with his time of :15.70. Joey Naig earned a second place in the 400 hurdles, turning in a time of 1:00.07.
The E-Hawks’ Shuttle Hurdle Relay, comprised of Joey Naig, Jake Stubbs, Ryan Kliegl and Jake Morris, took third place with their time of : 1:02.69, and the 4×200 relay, with Brady Berkland, Ryan Kliegl, Jake Stubbs and Cory Schultes, took a third place finish with a time of 1:38.16. The same quartet of runners also earned a third place finish in the 4×100 relay with their time of :47.76.
Ryan Kliegl earned a fourth place finish in the high jump, clearing 5’4” in the competition, while Austin Oppenheimer would finish fourth in the 400 hurdles with his 1:02.33 effort.
Jared Janssen took fifth place in the high jump, clearing 5’2” and Cory Schultes picked up fifth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of :11.67.
The E-Hawks’ 4×800 relay would earn fifth place with their time of 9:47.87 and the 4×400 relay, with Andrew Wellik, Austin McCartan, Clayton Henderson and Chad Loomis, finished fifth in a time of 4:08.35.
Rounding out the varsity placings for Emmetsburg on Thursday afternoon was the Medley Relay, as the foursome of Jake Morris, Jake Stubbs, Justin Studer and Bobby Gappa turned in a time of 4:13.00 to earn sixth place honors.
For Emmetsburg’s Junior Varsity, the JV?Shuttle Hurdle Relay, with Justin Firkins, Austin McCartan, Brady Garrelts and Austin Oppenheimer, took first place with a time of 1:06.81.
Andrew Garrelts took third place honors in the shot put, throwing the orb 36’1./2”. Emmetsburg’s JV?4×200 relay would place fifth with a time of 1:46.15.
The E-Hawks will run tonight (Tuesday) at the Lakes Conference Track Meet in LeMars, weather permitting. The event was postponed from Monday evening.
Emmetsburg will then compete in the Class 2A District Track Meet on Friday night at Garner-Hayfield High School in Garner. The top three qualifiers in each event at the district qualify to advance to the State Track and Field Championships, May 20-22, at Drake University in Des Moines.
