Emmetsburg Linksters Capture County Golf Titles

Golfers from Emmetsburg captured both the girls and boys team titles in the annual Palo Alto County Golf Meets, which were played Friday.

Coach Ted Riley’s Lady E-Hawks took the girls title, hosting the Lady Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard and Raiders of Ruthven-Ayrshire at the Five Island Golf Course.

Coach Kort Freeman’s E-Hawks traveled to West Bend, where they captured the team title in competition at the West Bend Country Club with West Bend-Mallard, Graettinger/Terril and Ruthven-Ayrshire.

Lady E-Hawk golfers Janna Hoch and Jenny Hoch claimed the medal honors on Friday, as Janna led the field with a round of 40, while Jenny followed with a round of 41. The rest  of the Emmetsburg scoring saw Megan Myers  carding a 47 and Krista Peaslee shooting a 49. Lauren Zimmerman shot a 51 and Hannah Drost rounded out the effort with a 53 for the Emmetsburg score of 177.

West Bend-Mallard followed with a team total of 229. Brooke Banwart led the Lady Wolverines with a round of 51, while Nicole Gearhart shot a 57. Mackenzie Banwart added a 59, while Sierra Origer carded a 62 and Natalie Forsythe shot a 65 and Kara Vanderhorst rounded out the effort with a 73.

For Ruthven- Ayrshire’s girls, Makenzie Fay led the effort with a round of 53, while Kayla Dyer added a 61. Megan Alexander shot a 62, with Kendra Feldman carding a 65 and Kara Gerdeman shooting an 81 for a team total of 241.

In the boys’ portion of the event, Emmetsburg led the way with a team score of 156, followed by West Bend-Mallard with a 179. Graettinger/Terril carded a 191 and Ruthven-Ayrshire had a 212 stroke total.

Emmetsburg’s Ben McCain won the meet medalist honors with a round of 36 on the West Bend Country Club links. Teammate Tyler Clasing tied with West Bend-Mallard’s Ryan Banwart for the runner-up honors with rounds of 39.

Emmetsburg scoring broke down with McCain’s 36 and Clasing’s round of 39. Next was Matt Ballman with a round of 40 and Nate Brown with a 41.  Justin Kibbie shot a 43, while Arthur Heldt rounded out the effort with a 46.

For the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard, Ryan Banwart led the way with his round of 39. Greg Mader shot a 44, while Jake Umstead added a 47 and Jake Goodchild shot a 49. Anthony Bruellman carded a 50 and Matt Goeders added a round of 51.

Graettinger/Terril was led by Cody Dyhrkopp with a round of 44, while Ryan Schany carded a 46 and Mitch Girres followed with a 47. Zach Harris carded a 54, while Tanner Naig shot a 55 and Quinn Parker rounded out the effort with a 58 stroke total.

Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Raiders where led by the 52 of Trevor Halder, who was followed by Dylan Fischer’s round  of 53. Logan Fischer and Stephan Thompson both added rounds of 54 to the effort, while Ryan Sikora shot a 55 and Brecken Stukey carded a 59.
