E’Hawks Edged By Spencer, Down Pocahontas Area
Emmetsburg’s E-Hawk golfers suffered their first setback of the season Friday in a two-stroke loss to Spencer, but still claimed a 44 stroke win over Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer in a triangular at the Five Island Golf Course. Spencer took the win with a 157, while Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer had a 203.
“The kids did an excellent job, as Spencer is the returning state runner-up in Class 3A,”?noted E-Hawk Head Coach Kort Freeman.
Arthur Heldt earned the meet medal honors on a playoff with his round of 39, while Jordan Oltman of Spencer was runner-up with his 39.
Other scoring for Emmetsburg included a 39 for Matt Ballman, a 40 from Tyler Clasing, a 41 by Nate Brown and a 42 from Justin Kibbie, while Ben McCain added a 46.
In the Junior Varsity, Emmetsburg won by five strokes, 182-187 over Spencer and Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer’s 252.
“Our JV has been working very hard and are improving in every meet,”?Freeman noted. “They know they are a meet away from having to step up and they play like it.”
Josh Kibbie and Nick Schany led the way with rounds of 43, while Austin Bonnstetter added a 45. Jake Jackson carded a 51, while Tyler Drost shot a round of 53 and Taylor Wegner added a 55.
