Swimmers Part Of Sports Scene At EHS
Though it doesn’t garner the attention of competitive sports such as football or basketball, swimming is a part of the Emmetsburg High School Athletic program, and three high schoolers earned letters for their participation on the Algona-Emmetsburg-Estherville Lincoln Central Swim Team this year.
The freshman trio of Alyssa Williams, Hannah Priest and Logan Egland were part of a 14 member team coached by Jim Fisher of Algona. The combined Algona-Emmetsburg-Estherville Lincoln Central swim team competed against strong competition and earned a 4-6 mark in their duel meets, as well as claiming a fourth place finish at the Charles City Invitational and a fifth place finish at the Polar Bear Invite at Des?Moines North. However, a highlight was a second place finish in a quadrangular meet at Charles City. The squad closed out their season with an eighth place finish in the Class 2A Regional meet at Fort Dodge with 99 points, the teams’s highest point total of the season.
Individually for the three Emmetsburg swimmers, Logan Egland competed in freestyle and backstroke events, where she swam as the second swimmer in relay and team events.
Alyssa Williams swam in freestyle breast stroke, backstroke and individual medley events. Williams also came away with the fastest backstroke effort for the Algona-Emmetsburg-ELC Team during the Regional meet.
Hannah Priest specialized in the freestyle and breast stroke events and set a team record in the breast stroke during the regional meet.
With all three girls returning for the coming season, and the loss of three seniors from the team, the prospects for the Algona-Emmetsburg-ELC?Swim Team should be very bright in the coming year.
