Kesterson Competes In Disney Marathon

By Staff | Mar 4, 2010

For Ruthven resident Barb Kesterson, working with the residents and staff at the Emmetsburg Care Center keeps her in great shape to pursue her hobby – marathon running.

Kesterson recently completed the 26.2 mile Marathon at Walt Disney World in January, which featured some 17,000 participants. Barb placed 9,001 in the marathon, finishing with a time of five hours 15 minutes and 15 seconds.

The Disney World Marathon was Kesterson’s fourth full marathon, as she has participated in the Chicago Marathon and the Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Additionally, Kesterson has run for the past three years in the annual St. Patrick’s Day O’ Round the Loch half-marathon. She is currently training for a marathon in Brainerd, Minn.

While every runner has a motivation to sacrifice and train, Kesterson’s reason is simple and to the point. “I run because I like to have goals and something to look forward to.”
