E’Hawks Hit Rough Road At State

By Staff | Feb 18, 2010

Day two of the Iowa State Wrestling Championships got a little rocky for the Emmetsburg/Armstrong-Ringsted/Ruthven-Ayrshire E’Hawks, as two of the three remaining wrestlers fell in their quarterfinal match Thursday morning.

E’Hawks Joey Naig and Jake Morris both lost decisions in their matches, but Skyler Rice earned a decision victory over Jacob England in the 135 pound match to advance into the quarterfinals on Friday.

At 160 pounds, Joey Naig lost a hard-fought decision to Landon Williams in the quarterfinal matchup. However, Naig stayed alive in the consolation bracket with a wrestleback decision win over Cam Savage.

The match at 189 pounds for Jake Morris followed a similar script, as Morris lost to Stewart Holloway. In his wrestleback, Morris defeated Bruce McWilliams to remain alive in the consolation bracket for Friday’s session.
