Lady E’Hawks Down Maidens

POCAHONTAS – Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks found the perfect answer for a short week Thursday night with a 45-42 win over Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer. The win gives Emmetsburg a 4-15 mark overall as they prepared to enter the second season Saturday night.

Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy -Palmer would jump out to an early lead over the Lady E’Hawks on Thursday, taking a 14-7 lead over Emmetsburg and held the lead through the second quarter as Emmetsburg struggled with getting the ball to fall in the hoop to trail 29-18 at the intermission.

Trailing by 11 points to start the second half, Emmetsburg found its offense in the third quarter, and went on a scoring binge, outscoring the Indians by a 15-3 margin to take a 33-32 lead to start the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Emmetsburg would continue to hit its shots and play tough defense on the Indians, matching bucket for bucket, but adding an extra bucket in the final seconds to claim the 45-42 victory.

Paige Naig would record a double-double for the Lady E’Hawks, scoring 14 points and collecting 12 rebounds, while making a steal. Nicole Leuer added 12 points and dished out four assists, while Tiffany Wollum came away with 13 points, three assists and three steals. Kaity Degen and Maddison Woodruff rounded out the scoring with two points each, while Degen made four steals.
