Knights Stumble In Regional Dual
POCAHONTAS – A dream of a berth in the State Team Dual Tournament was dashed Wednesday for the Graettinger/Terril Knights. The Knights fell victim to Eagle Grove by a 48-35 tally in the Class 1A Regional Dual in a dual that Knight Head Coach Cody Alesch was not pleased with.
“Unfortunately for the guys who showed up on our team and wrestled hard, the other half did not,” Alesch said. “I am disgusted with our attitude and work ethic lately and Wednesday night it showed.”
Graettinger/Terril picked up six wins, two of which were wins by forfeit, against Eagle Grove. The Knights started out at 119 pounds with a 16-0 Technical Fall victory from Tyler Manning over Kameron Pederson. At 125 pounds, Connor Tonderum earned a4:29 win by fall over Brenton Pohlman and at 130 pounds, Trent Lundgren earned a :32 win by fall over Mondo Lindstrom.
Ryan Schany would lose a 3:40 fall to Timmy Reed at 135 and at 140, Tym Hart was pinned in 2:48 of his match with Marcus Gratewood.
The Knights forfeited to Eagle Grove at 145, but at 152, Heath Marchand earned a 2:19 win by fall over Jackson Locke to put the Knights up 23-18. A forfeit from Eagle Grove at 160 pounds put the Knights up 29-18 before Paolo Lazo was pinned in 1:14 of the 171-pound match by Jared Gambrill.
At 189 pounds, Graettinger/Terril received a win by forfeit for a 35-24 lead, but at 215 pounds, Nate Howard was pinned by Bryce Olson in 1:51 of their match.
Mitch McGrauth was pinned in 1:36 of the heavyweight match by Zach Boyer to put the Eagles on top by a point, 35-36. Tyler Dalen would be pinned in 1:46 by Brandon Moore in the 103 pound match and at 112 pounds, Austin Thompson was pinned in 1:12 by Matt Reed to give the Eagles the 48-35 win.
“I am proud of a few individual efforts,” Coach Alesch said, “But I’m embarrassed about our team.”
