Graettinger/Terril, Ruthven-Ayrshire Girls Battle To Buzzer
GRAETTINGER – Whenever the Knights of Graettinger/Terril and the Raiders of Ruthven-Ayrshire meet up on the courts, an excellent contest is in store for the fans. Tuesday night the fans got their money’s worth as a last second shot would determine the outcome in a 36-35 victory for Graettinger/Terril over the Raider girls.
The game started slowly, with the score being tied up at 8-8 before GT was able to take a 10-8 lead to end the quarter.
Using an 11-point run, the Knights slipped out to a 19-8 lead, but Ruthven-Ayrshire battled back to cut the margin to 21-15 at the intermission break.
Coach Trenton Keefer’s club would start the second half with a 7-3 scoring run, only to see the Knight girls answer and take a 30-23 advantage at the end of the third frame.
But in the final quarter, the points came slowly for the Knights, as Ruthven-Ayrshire steadily chipped away at the Knights’ lead. Graettinger/Terril would be limited to just six points in the final quarter, while Ruthven-Ayrshire came back to score 12 points to trail by one after a missed three-pointer was put back up for a regular field goal as time expired in the 36-35 setback.
For Ruthven-Ayrshire, Sadie Forey collected a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Shyanne Zaragoza added eight points, while Alesha Sikora had seven points and Faith Schmidt had three points
For Graettinger/Terril, Morgan Matthews had 11 points, while Tasha Neilson added 10 markers. Dakota Hovinga came up with nine points, while Lindsay Flaharty, Amanda Oleson and Tiffany Harris each scored two points.
