E’Hawks Play Hard In Road Setback
LeMARS – Emmetsburg’s E’Hawks had a much better outing in their 60-49 loss to LeMars Tuesday night in Lakes Conference boys basketball action. After losing a meeting to the Bulldogs 53-23 back in December, the E’Hawks had a much better night of shooting in Tuesday’s setback, according to Head Coach Mike Brennan.
“I thought we played really hard in the second half, and we handled their man-to-man pressure much better than we did in the first game,” Brennan noted. “I really was pretty happy with how we played, considering we hadn’t practiced for several days with the weather.”
The E’Hawks got off to a slow start offensively, trailing the Bulldogs by a 20-9 score at the end of the first quarter, but started chipping away at LeMars’ lead in the second quarter to trail 37-22 at the intermission.
Emmetsburg worked hard in the second half to stay close to the Bulldogs and kept within 11 points, trailing 50-39 when the third quarter ended. In the final frame, the E’Hawks outscored the Bulldogs 11-10 for the 60-49 final total.
Emmetsburg had three players score in double figures, with Cory Schultes scoring 16 points, while Ryan Kliegl added 14 points. Nick Wuebker had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Jake Carlson added four points and Nate Brown added three points to the tally.
Ryan Kliegl dished out five assists in the effort.
Emmetsburg hit 17 of 20 at the line, and made 13 of 20 from two-point range and hit just one of six from outside the arc.
The E’Hawks host Spencer this Friday at home.
