E’Hawk Grapplers Win Double Dual, Then Stumble At Osage

With four weeks remaining before the State Wrestling Tournament, the action on the wrestling mats is heating up. For the Emmetsburg/Armstrong-Ringsted/Ruthven-Ayrshire E’Hawks, forward progress took a little stumble over the weekend at the Osage Duals, where the E’Hawks were shut out, after winning two duals at home on Thursday night.
Thursday, the E’Hawks hosted Rockwell City/Lytton/Southern Cal and Manson Northwest Webster and won both duals, but on Saturday, they E’Hawks went 0-4 at the Osage Duals, losing to Kasson-Mantorville of Minnesota, Independence, Iowa City West and Osage. The E’Hawks sport a mark of 13-6 after the week, as they prepare for a conference dual Thursday with Estherville Lincoln Central and LeMars, before traveling to the 24-team Herb Irgens Invitational at Ida Grove on Friday and Saturday.
In action Thursday, the E’Hawks recorded a 48-27 win over Rockwell City-Lytton/Southern Cal.
At 130, Skyler Rice pinned Zach Vreeland in :54, but at 135, Grant Rehan was pinned in 3:55. Austin McCartan tallied a 1:34 win by fall over Cody Hicks at 145 and at 152, Andrew Wellik took :46 to pin Michael DeMoss.
At 160, Joey Naig earned a 1:04 pin over Brent Sexton, but at 171, Howard Henkelvig was pinned in 3:40. Derek Henkelvig forced an overtime match at 189 with a last-second takedown, and went on to get another takedown for an 8-6 overtime decision over Kolby Schoop.
Jake Morris pinned Travis Delance in 1:11 at 215 pounds, but Andrew Garrelts was pinned in 4:22 at heavyweight. Tyler Leuer took a :29 win by fall over Skylor Pochinski at 103, but at 112, Nick Merwald was pinned in :59.
Isaac Lundgren earned a fall in 5:23 over Zachary Smith at 119 and at 125, Justin Studer earned a tough, 12-11 decision win over Tate Klocke before Nick Schany lost an 8-3 decision for the 48-27 final.
Against Manson Northwest Webster, the E’Hawks started with a 9-4 decision win by Grant Rehan over Nathan Eastwood at 140. Austin McCartan won a 6-2 decision over Jordan Howell but Mitch Peterson lost a 7-3 decision to Ben Dolder at 152.
Andrew Wellik earned a10-0 major decision over Dustin Anderson and at 171, Joey Naig won a 14-7 decision. over Austin Rauch. Jake Morris earned a 2:40 win by fall over Ronnie Allbee at 189 and at 215, Derek Henkelvig took a 5:24 pin over Daniel Goodwin.
Andrew Garrelts was pinned in 2:52 of the heavyweight match, but Tyler Leuer too a 1:29 pin over Cody Blair at 103. Nick Merwald was pinned in :29 of the 112 pound match before Isaac Lundgren lost a 7-6 decision to Jesse Partlow at 119 pounds.
Nick Schany won a 14-5 major decision over Dylan Dorage at 125 and Brady Bailey earned a 6-0 decision win over Caleb Smothers before Skyler Rice received a win by forfeit for the 44-18 final score.
Saturday the E’Hawks traveled to Osage for the Osage Duals. In the first dual of the day, the E’Hawks met up with the Komets of Kasson-Mantorville, Minn., but lost a 54-15 duel decision.
