Lady E’Hawk Offense Struggles In Setbacks

The offensive struggles continue for the Lady E’Hawks of Emmetsburg in a pair of losses to open the week. Emmetsburg fell at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Monday and the dropped a game to Cherokee Tuesday.

In Monday’s non-conference game at Hartley, the Lady E’Hawks fell by a 52-32 margin to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. Emmetsburg opened the game matching the Hawks offensively, as the game was tied 10-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Emmetsburg continued to fight hard in the second frame, and took a 21-19 lead over the Hawks when the intermission rolled around.

Hartley-Melvin -Sanborn would rally in the third quarter, and caught Emmetsburg, taking a 34-30 lead at the end of the third quarter. But in the final frame, Emmetsburg was unable to make their offense work except for a lone bucket in the final eight minutes, while Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn put up 18 points to take the 52-32 final margin of victory.

For Emmetsburg, Tiffany Wollum led the offense with eight points, which included a pair of three-point field goals. Paige Naig added six points, while Aly Berven came off the bench to add five points. Kaity Degen and Justine Kummer both chipped in four points and Nicole Leuer added two points to the effort.

On Tuesday, Emmetsburg fell in a makeup game from Dec. 8 to Cherokee by a 39-44 tally to fall to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in Lakes Conference play.

The Lady E’Hawks will travel to Spirit Lake on Friday night.
