SIBLEY – It’s always a good thing to get some momentum going right away in a wrestling dual. The Emmetsburg/Armstrong-Ringsted/Ruthven-Ayrshire E’Hawks did just that on Tuesday night with victories over Graettinger/Terril and Sibley-Ocheyedan in a make up double dual as Sibley.

The E’Hawks manhandled Sibley-Ocheyedan by a 51-21 tally, and then defeated the Knights in an inter-county battle by a 44-24 margin.

Against the Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan, the E’Hawks started with a win by fall for Tyler Leuer, as he pinned Brent Reed in :36 of the 103 pound match. A double forfeit at 112 followed before Justin Studer squared off with Cole Hieronimous. The pair battled back and forth evenly before Hieronimous earned a 9-4 decision over Studer.

At 125, Nick Schany got the E’Hawks back on the winning track with a 3:08 win by fall over Tucker Boone. Brady Bailey earned a 2:47 win by fall over Tyler Reck in their 130 pound matchup and at 135 pounds, Skyler Rice scored a 7-3 decision over Steven Brockshus to put the E’Hawks up 21-3.

Jake Stubbs earned a 2:58 win by fall over the Generals’ Jessie Glade in the 140 pound match and at 145 pounds, Austin McCartan collected a 2:14 win by fall over Marco Miranda for a 33-3 advantage.

S/O’s Tayler Block would earn a 5:50 win by fall over Mitch Peterson in the 152 pound matchup, but at 160 pounds, Andrew Wellik came up with a 1:59 win by fall over Peter Meyer.

The E’Hawks got a :40 win by fall from Joey Naig as he pinned Marshall Eddy in the 171 pound match and at 189 pounds, Jake Morris scored a 3:10 win by fall over Isaac Butler to give the E’Hawks a 51-9 advantage.

Emmetsburg/AR/RA forfeited at 215 to the Generals and at heavyweight, Andrew Garrelts was pinned in just :06 by Jacob Dagel to end the dual with the 51-21 final.

In the second dual of the night, the E’Hawks squared off with in-county rival Graettinger/Terril, looking for a little revenge after a loss to the Knights last year.

The dual started at 112 pounds, with the E’Hawks giving a forfeit to Hunter Miner.

At 119 pounds, Isaac Lundgren reeled off a series of takedowns against Austin Thompson to score a 22-6 Technical Fall in 3:44 of their match.

Nick Schany would meet Tyler Manning in the 125 pound match and trailed 4-2 going into the final period, but received a penalty point and an escape to tie the match, before scoring a takedown, but Manning earned a late escape, only to run out of time as Schany earned the 6-5 decision win.

Trent Lundgren would execute a leg cradle against the E’Hawks’ Brady Bailey in the 130 pound match, but didn’t get the pin, and would settle for an 8-6 decision win over the E’Hawk to make the score 9-8 in favor of the Knights.

The E’Hawks came back at 135, as Skyler Rice pinned Tymthy Hart in 1:08 of their match and Jake Stubbs would earn a 25-10 Technical Fall in 5:55 of the 140 pound match with Ryan Schany to put the E’Hawks up 19-9.

At 145 pounds, Austin McCartan met up with Heath Marchand and earned a 10-5 decision for the E’Hawks.

The Knights would get a win in the 152 pound match when Michael Jensen pinned Mitch Peterson in 2:15 to make the score 22-15.

Emmetsburg/AR/RA would get a :30 win by fall from Austin McCartan as he pinned Palo Lazo in the 160 pound match before Joey Naig received a win by forfeit at 171 pounds.

Jake Morris met Nate Howard in the 189 pound match and earned a 16-6 major decision victory over Howard to put the E’Hawks up by a 38-15 score.

Graettinger/Terril got a forfeit win for Quinn Parker at 215 pounds from the E’Hawks, but at 285, the two sophomore heavyweights, G/T’s Mitch McGrauth and the E’Hawks’ Andrew Garrelts, had a great match. McGrauth scored the early takedown and took Garrelts down to start the second period, but Garrelts came up with a reversal and pinned McGrauth in 3:59 of the match for the win.

The Knights would earn the last victory of the match at 103 pounds when Tyler Dalen earned a 4-1 decision victory over the E’Hawks’ Tyler Leuer.

The E’Hawks are slated to meet Spirit Lake Park and Storm Lake in a Lakes Conference double dual at Spirit Lake tonight, (Thursday) weather permitting. The E’Hawks then travel to the Mason City Duals Saturday.
