Wolverines Earn Split

WEST BEND – West Bend-Mallard’s Wolverines earned a split in their final two games of the first half of their 2009-2010 basketball campaign. The Wolverines downed Southeast Webster by a 56-49 tally on Dec. 14, but fell to Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne the following night by a 32-42 tally.

Against Southeast Webster, the Wolverines got double-double efforts out of Chris Schmidt and Jake Goodchild, and Schmidt tallied 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, while Goodchild also dropped in 19 points and collected 11 rebounds.Mitch Bonnstetter scored five points, while Clay Douglas added three points, Greg Mader kicked in two points and Taylor Foley added a free throw for one point.

Defensively, Chris Schmidt handed out three assists, while Greg Mader, Mitch Bonnstetter and Chris Schmidt all made two steals.

The following evening, Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne earned the eight-point, 42-34 win over the Wolverines. Jake Goodchild led the offense for West Bend-Mallard with 10 points, while Chris Schmidt added nine points Greg Mader came away with six points, while Mitch Bonnstetter added four points. Jake Umsted chipped in three points and Taylor Foley rounded out the scoring with two points.

Defensively, Chris Schmidt collected 10 rebounds, while Taylor Foley added nine boards and Jake Goodchild snagged seven boards. Bonnstetter, Schmidt and Goodchild all dished out two assists in the contest.

The Wolverines resume their season tonight (Tuesday), weather permitting, with a Cornbelt Conference matchup against Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka at West Bend.
