Lady Wolverines Go 2-1 To Close Out December
WEST BEND – West Bend-Mallard’s Lady Wolverines closed out the first half of their 2009-2010 basketball campaign with a pair of wins and a loss.
On Dec. 11, the Lady Wolverines tallied a 52-46 win over Ventura. However, three nights later the Wolverine girls ran into a buzz saw in Southeast Webster and fell in a 42-28 decision, before bouncing back to earn a 54-23 win over Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne on Dec. 15 to start their holiday break.
Against Ventura, West Bend-Mallard got 20 points in a double-double from Melissa Abrahamson to pace the offense and defense. Jessica Fehr added nine points, while Amanda Frieden chipped in eight points.Erica Fehr added six points, with Carrie Hefty and Kara Vanderhorst both adding four points. Brooke Banwart chipped in two points and Heidi Zaugg rounded out the effort with a free throw.
Defensively, Melissa Abrahamson pulled down 16 boards in the contest, while Amanda Frieden collected 13 rebounds and blocked four shots.
Against Southeast Webster, the Lady Wolverines were lead by the 18 points of Melissa Abrahamson, while Amanda Frieden earned the double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Jessica Fehr chipped in five points, while Carrie Hefty, Kara Vanderhorst, Wendy Grimm and McKenzie Grimm all had two points. Heidi Zaugg would add a free throw to round out the scoring for West Bend-Mallard.
On the defensive end of the court, Amanda Frieden’s 14 boards were the mark, with Melissa Abrahamson adding six caroms and Jessica Fehr collecting five boards. Amanda Frieden blocked three shots and dished out three assists, while Carrie Hefty made four steals in the contest.
The following night, West Bend-Mallard took on Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne and earned a 54-23 win.
Jessica Fehr and Melissa Abrahamson would lead the scoring with 11 points each, while Carrie Hefty chipped in eight points. Erica Fehr had five points, while Kayla Banwart, Heidi Zaugg and Amanda Frieden all scoring four points. Kara Vanderhorst and Haley Banwart rounded out the scoring with two points each.
On defense, Amanda Frieden pulled down seven rebounds with Mackenzie Banwart adding six boards to the effort. Jessica Fehr dished out four assists to her teammates and also made four steals in the winning effort.
West Bend-Mallard resumes action tonight (Tuesday) when they entertain Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka at West Bend. On Friday, the Wolverines will play host Harris-Lake Park.
