Dunlap Selected As Assistant Coach For Shrine Bowl

Emmetsburg High School will continue a long-standing tradition of having representation at the Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Game in 2010.

E’Hawk Head Coach Mike Dunlap has been selected as one of the assistant coaches for the North Squad for the 2010 classic, which is scheduled for Saturday, July 24, at Jack Trice Stadium at Iowa State University in Ames.

Dunlap, who  is in his 21st year of coaching and his 17th year at Emmetsburg, was selected as an assistant by North Team Head coach Roger Jansen of Bishop Heelan High School in Sioux City. Also selected with Dunlap to comprise the North Squad coaching staff are Mark Ehlers of Dubuque Hempstead, Joe Hadachek of Union Community-LaPorte City, Shawn Meth of Eagle Grove and ?Graham Lundt of Akron-Westfield High School.

The coaching staff meets prior to the holidays to select their 46 member squad for the annual fundraising classic, and sent invitations to the prospective players on Dec. 19. Players have until Jan. 4 to accept or decline the invitations to play in the 2010 Shrine Bowl Game.

The 2010 Iowa Shrine All Star Football Game with be the 38th Annual fundraiser for the Shriner’s Orthopaedic Hospitals and Burn Centers across the United States. The game is sponsored annually by the four Iowa Shrine Temples, Abu-Bekr, El Kahir, Kaaba and Za-Ga-Zig, as the primary fundraiser to support the ongoing efforts of the Shriners and their hospitals  to treat the medical needs of children, all at no cost to the patients.
