Knights Enter Break With Split
GRAETTINGER – Despite a flurry of three-point shots in the final half, the Graettinger/Terril Knights fell to Laurens-Marathon by a 49-45 margin Thursday night. However, the Knights would come back the next night to post a 69-23 win over Corwith-Wesley-Luverne on Friday to close out the first half of the roundball campaign.
In Thursday’s game, both teams got off to a slow start, as Laurens-Marathon took a 9-4 lead after the first quarter of play but both teams stepped up the offense in the second frame.?However, the Chargers were able to hang on to a 26-20 lead at the intermission.
Graettinger/Terril would continue to battle back in the second quarter, outscoring the Chargers 12-6, to tie the game up at 32-32, as Cody Dyhrkopp began hitting three-point shots in the quarter.
In the final quarter, Laurens-Marathon pulled away from the Knights, outscoring Graettinger/Terril 17-13 in the final eight minutes to take the four-point win.
Cody Dyhrkopp would pace the Knights with 17 points on the night, including four treys, all in the second half. Beau Craig added 10 points, while Cody Chapman, Eric Hatland and Colin Leiting all chipped in five points each. Mitch Girres rounded out the scoring with three points.
Colin Leiting added seven rebounds, while Cody Dyhrkopp dished out six assists.
It was a totally different story on Friday, as the Knights dismantled the Panthers of Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne, tripling up the Panthers by a 69-23 tally.
The Knights never had to look back on Friday night, racing out to a 17-3 lead after one quarter and a 38-10 advantage at the intermission.
Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Brent Dyhrkopp was able to go to the bench throughout the second half of the game, getting some valuable playing time for his reserves, and the backup players didn’t disappoint their fans.
The Knights continued to dominate, taking a 58-13 lead at the end of the third quarter and then put the game on ice with the 69-23 final tally.
Beau Craig led the Knights with a 19 point effort, while Cody Dyhrkopp dealt out 13 points. Cody Chapman and Colin Leiting both scored seven points, while Eric Hatland adding six markers. Mitch Girres added five points, with Austin Rehm and Blaze Alesch both adding three points. Logan Flaharty, Ty Bisenius and Jesse Nissen all scored two points in the attack.
Eric Hatland, Cody Chapman, Cody Dyhrkopp and Jesse Nissen all pulled down five rebounds in the winning effort, while Colin Leiting and Blaze Alesch both collected four boards.

The split gives Graettinger/Terril a mark of 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Cornbelt boys race as they take the holiday break off.
Action for the second half of the season will resume Jan. 5 in a contest at Lake Park against the Wolves of Harris-Lake Park.
