G/T?Wrestlers Capture DeLeon Tournament Title
BRITT – The Graettinger-Terril Knight wrestling team finished off the first half of their season with a nice present – the Team Championship at the DeLeon Invitational Tournament in Britt on Saturday, Dec. 19.
Graettinger/Terril crowned six champions and earned five additional placings in the tourney.
Winning championships were Tyler Dalen at 103 pounds, with two wins, along with Trent Lundgren at 125 pounds with four wins on the day. Tym Hart took the title at 130 pounds iwth a 4-1 record and Heath Marchand finished with a perfect 5-0 mark to earn the championship at 140.
Also winning championships for the Knights were 152 pounder Michael Jensen with a 5-0 match mark and Nate Howards at 189 pounds with a 5-0 mark.
The Knights got third place finishes from Austin Thompson at 112 pounds, as he finished with a 2-2 record. Ryan Schany took third place honors at 135 pounds with a 3-2 mark and at 285 pounds, Quinn Parker finished the tournament with a record of 1-2 for his third place finish.
Rounding out the placings for Graettinger/Terril were Connor Tonderum with a mark of 1-4 to finish fifth at the 119 pound weight division, and Palo Lazo at 160 pounds, who also earned fifth place honors with a 1-4 mark in matches.
“Winning the team championship and having six champions is about as good as I can expect,” said Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Cody Alesch. “Our kids fought hard all day and wrestled as good as we have all year. The young guys are starting to realize what they are capable of and now we can use the confidence as we prepare for the second half of the season.”
Graettinger/Terril resumes action Jan. 4 by hosting Spirit Lake and Central?Lyon/George Little Rock and then traveling to Sibley on Jan 5 for a makeup dual with Emmetsburg/AR/RA and Sibley/Ocheyedan.
