Knights Edge Raiders In County Matchup

RUTHVEN – In the first matchup of two county teams, the Knights of Graettinger/Terril came out on top over Ruthven-Ayrshire on Tuesday night. Graettinger/Terril claimed a 57-49 victory over the Raiders of Ruthven-Ayrshire in a hard-fought, intense contest at Ruthven.

“The entire game was close and hard-fought,”?admitted Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Brent Dyhrkopp. “We were able to keep a lead and got them to foul us towards the end of the game, and were able to hit enough free throws to keep our lead.”

The contest started out at an even pace, with both teams matching each other for offensive output, with the score knotted at 12-12 after one quarter. Graettinger/Terril would get one more drop in the second quarter to take a 26-24 lead at the break, but the issue was far from settled as the second half began.

The two teams continued to battle back and forth, but some misses by the Raiders and tough defense by the Knights in the third quarter allowed Graettinger/Terril to take a three-point, 37-34 lead to start the final eight minutes.

Ruthven-Ayrshire would continue to fight hard in the closing minutes, but fouls began to creep into the picture as the Raiders had to foul to get the ball from the Knights, and Graettinger/Terril would go on to make 19 of 29 attempts at the charity stripe to save the win.

Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Ryan Sikora led all scorers with 23 points, while Graettinger/Terril’s Beau Craig was right behind with 21 points.

Ruthven-Ayrshire got 12 points from Mark Geelan, six points from Colton Bakken and four points from Logan Fischer and Zach Loring.

For the Knights, Cody Chapman had 19 points, while Colin Leiting added 11 points, Cody Dyhrkopp added five points and Eric Hatland added a free throw for one point.

Defensively, Mark Geelan came up with the double-double of 10 rebounds to go with his 12 points. Ryan Sikora pulled down six rebounds, while Zach Loring grabbed three boards, Logan Fischer added two boards and Colton Bakken grabbed one carom.

Trevin Enderson, Zac Loring and Mark Geelan all dished out three assists, while Mark Geelan and Ryan Sikora both made two steals and Sikora blocked one shot.

For Graettinger/Terril, Colin Leiting had five rebounds, while Beau Craig grabbed four and Eric Hatland had two boards. Eric Hatland dished out five assists, while Cody Chapman handed out four helpers and Cody Dyhrkopp had three assists and made five steals. Eric Hatland added three steals and Cody Chapman made two steals.

“Ruthven-Ayrshire has good size, good shooters and are very well coached,”?Dyhrkopp said. “Ruthven is a very tough place to win.
