Lady Wolverines Split Games

WEST?BEND – West Bend-Mallard’s Lady Wolverines split a pair of games last week, defeating Rockwell City-Lytton on Thursday by a 41-35 score, but falling to Twin River Valley on Friday by a 56-42 tally.

In Thursday’s contest, the Lady Wolverines would use a two-pronged offensive attack as Jessica Fehr and Amanda Frieden both racked up 13 points to lead the purple and gold. Melissa Abrahamson added six points, while Carrie Hefty had five points. Kara Vanderhorst and Mackenzie Banwart both added two points each and Eric Fehr chipped in a free throw to round out the scoring in the 41-35 final.

Mackenzie Banwart would scorch the nets for 12 rebounds, while Melissa Abrahamson and Amanda Frieden both pulled down nine boards each. Frieden would block four shots, while Jessica Fehr made four steals for the Lady Wolverines.

The task was a little tougher on Friday night as the Lady Wolverines hosted neighboring rivals Twin River Valley, and came up short in a 56-42 contest.

The offenses struggled in the first quarter, with Twin River Valley taking a 10-6 lead, and then outscored the Lady Wolverines 20-13 in the second frame for a 30-19 lead at the intermission.

The two teams would trade buckets in the third quarter, but Twin River Valley was able to capitalize on several second-shot opportunities and turnovers to take a 47-33 lead to start the final quarter, and would hand on despite a determined rally attempt by the Lady Wolverines in the closing minutes of the game.

For West Bend-Mallard, Amanda Frieden would pace the offense with 18 points, while Melissa Abrahamson, Mackenzie Banwart and Jessica Fehr would each add four points to the effort. Kayla Banwart added three points to the tally, while Heidi Zaugg, Kara Vanderhorst and Brooke Banwart all scored two points each and Erica Fehr sank a free throw for one point.

Defensively, Amanda Frieden snagged 14 rebounds in the contest, and had three steals along with Jessica Fehr, while Carrie Hefty dished out three assists.
