E’Hawk Freshmen Wrap Up Perfect Season

Emmetsburg’s Freshman football team completed a perfect 7-0 season with a pair of victories over Algona and arch-rivals Estherville Lincoln Central.

In the game against Algona, Coach Tyler Beving’s E’Hawks blanked the Bulldogs by a 56-0 score. Andrew Wellik had a breakout game, scoring four touchdowns off runs of 77, 25, 74 and 82 yards in the contest, and finished the game by rushing for 302 yards. Austin McCartan would add a touchdown run of 61 yards and rushed for 63 total yards, while Cody Henderson rushed for 68 yards and scored two touchdowns off runs of three yards and 30 yards.

Mitch Peterson picked up 82 yards on the ground, while Jake Jackson ran for 18 yards and passed for 18 yards, with Nick Schany making 18 yards in receptions.

On the defensive side of the ball, Austin McCartan, Andrew Wellik and Nick Schany all made eight tackles while Jake Jackson added six stops in the victorious effort.

The season finished out with a 42-0 pasting of Estherville Lincoln Central. Once again, Andrew Wellik led the offensive march with 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns off runs of 12 and 11 yards in the contest. Austin McCartan added a 55-yard touchdown run on his way to rushing for 92 yards in the win. Jake Jackson added 89 rushing yards, scoring touchdowns off runs of 10 and 69 yards. In addition, Jackson returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, and completed three of four passes for 57 yards.

Mitch Peterson gained 52 yards on the ground, while Nick Schany came away with 32 yrads and Tyler Leuer added 11 yards to the effort. Nick Schany made one pass for a total of 17 yards, and then had 29 yards receiving, while Mitch Peterson had a 17 yard catch along with Nick Merwald and Austin McCartan had an 11 yard reception.

On defense, Austin McCartan made 10 tackles, while Andrew Wellik and Brady Garrelts both added eight stops to the tally. Clayton Henderson and Jake Jackson both came up with seven tackles in the win.

The defense also had a field day with nine quarterback sacks, as Austin McCartan, Andrew Wwllik, Mitch Peterson, Ben Kollasch, Tony Reding, Trevor Ring, Brady Garrelts, and Ryan Borchardt all got to the quartaerback.

Rounding out the defensive effort was Nick Schany, who intercepted a pass for the E’Hawks in the season finale.
