TERRIL – The annual preview of girls basketball in the area took place Monday night at the Terril Jamboree. Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks would meet up with the Graettinger/Terril Knights in a two-quarter scrimmage, and claimed a 22-15 win over the Knights.

It took over two and a half minutes for any scoring to take place in the scrimmage, but it was Emmetsburg’s Tiffany Wollum who started the season off with a layup, only to be answered on the other end of the court by G/T’s Tasha Neilson for a 2-2 score. The points would come sparingly through the remaining five minutes of the quarter, but it was Emmetsburg posting 9-7 lead at the end of the first quarter of action.

In the second quarter, both teams experimented with their lineups, the Knights going with a younger lineup, which allowed the Lady E’Hawks to edge out to a 16-11 lead with 2:10 to go in the scrimmage.

Emmetsburg edged away with some three-point shooting by Tiff Wollum, along with Maddison Woodruff and Tacee Leebens.

As the scrimmage wound down, Graettinger/Terril would make a run at the Lady E’Hawks, cutting the deficit to three points, but Emmetsburg would prevail for the 22-15 final score.

Emmetsburg would be led by the 13 point effort of Tiff Wollum, who had three three-point field goals on the night.

Tacee Leebens had a trey and a free throw to tally four points, while Maddison Woodruff nailed a trey for three points and Paige Naig rounded out the scoring with two points.

Graettinger/Terril was led by the five point effort of Tasha Neilson, with Lindsay Flaharty adding four points. Dakota Hovinga, Hailey Nelson and Maddy Schany all added field goals for two points each.

The regular seasons will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 1 for both teams, as Emmetsburg opens play for the season by hosting Spirit Lake.

The Knights will open their campaign against Harris-Lake Park in a game to be played in Terril.
