Harriers Run Strong At Lakes Conference Meet
BURNSVILLE – Emmetsburg’s Cross Country teams ran strong in the 2009 Lakes Conference Cross Country Meet Monday afternoon. The meet was run under much more favorable conditions Monday after being postponed from Oct. 13.
Emmetsburg’s efforts were paced by Rachael Moore, who would run a strong race to earn second place overall in the girls’ competition. Moore, who earned All Conference Honors, ran a 16:33 for second place, building off a 6:18 first mile and 13:25 two-mile split for her best finish of the season.
Lady E’Hawk senior Blake Schany would earn 28th place at the league run, finishing with an 18:48 clocking after running a 6:40 mile and 15:00 two-mile split.
Caroline Flom would finish with a time of 19:48, good for the 38th finishing position. Caroline, also a senior for the Lady E’Hawks, ran her fist mile in 7:30 and had a 16:00 two-mile split.
Tayler Bruns would earn 46th place, finishing with a 21:50 clocking after starting with an 8:25 mile and a 17:35 two-mile split. Tacee Leebens would follow a tick behind with a 22:20 for 47th place, after running an 8:55 mile and 18:18 two-mile split.
Senior Allory Kliegl would round out Emmetsburg’s finishes as she turned in a time of 23:53 for 51st place. Kliegl ran an 8:55 mile and two-mile split of 19:56 for the Lady E’Hawks.
The E’Hawk boys were minus the services of Zach Overburg due to illness on Monday, but Allen Dunnick would lead the way for the E’Hawks with his 20:16 effort, good for 33rd place. Allen had a 6:00 mile and a two-mile split of 12:53, while younger brother Austin Dunnick finished 35th with his time of 20:29. Austin would run a 6:10 mile and 13:07 two-mile split for the E’Hawks.
Chad Loomis would turn in a time of 20:45 to earn the 39th place finish, after starting with a 6:08 mile and 13:10 two-mile split.
Senior Jared Janssen would record a 44th place finish with his clocking of 21:53, after starting out with a 6:28 mile and 13:58 two-mile split.
Teammate Daniel Pelzer would run a 24:15 to finish in 45th place. Pelzer had a two-mile split time of 15:16, after running his first mile in 7:14.
Max Jones would round out the E’Hawk efforts on Monday, as the freshman ran a 26:10, good for 46th place. Jones ran a 7:14 first mile and a 16:02 two-mile split for Emmetsburg in the event.
“I thought everyone ran with great confidence and energy,” noted Emmetsburg Head?Coach Dan Dooley. “Rachael had an excellent run to finish second and earn All Conference honors. We now have to be ready to give our all at the District meet this Thursday.”
The E’Hawks and Lady E’Hawks will run their Class 1A District Cross Country Meet today (Thursday), Oct. 22, at the Holstein Country Club in Holstein. The Girls race will begin promptly at 4 p.m., with the Boys race to follow at 4:30 p.m.
The top 10 individual finishers in both boys and girls competitions, along with the top three finishing teams in both the girls and boys competitions will earn qualification to compete at the State Cross Country Championships Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Lakeside Golf Course, north of Fort Dodge.
