Lady Wolverines Best Ventura

WEST?BEND – It took four games to decide the issue but a huge 14-point rally in game three helped West Bend-Mallard earn a 3-1 match victory over Ventura in volleyball action Tuesday night. The Lady Wolverines would win the match by game scores of 25-11, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-16.

It was the big rally in game three that pushed the Lady Wolverines over the top, as they trailed at one point, 20-11, and would go on an 11-2 run to claw back into the fight and eventually win the game. Strong serving from Kara Vanderhorst, Nicole Gearhart, Jessica Fehr and Missy Abrahamson helped spark the rally for the Lady Wolverines.

Nicole Gearhart would finish the night with 15 of 15 serves with one ace, as well as making 19 of 22 hits with five kills and a pair of blocks. Jessica Fehr would come away with 17 of 19 serves with four aces, and dug out 10 shots on the night, along with making 17 of 22 hits with five kills.

Missy Abrahamson added 12 of 15 serves with an ace and 19 of 22 hits with 10 kills, while Kara Vanderhorst had 15 of 17 serves with three aces and six digs.

Amanda Frieden would be strong at the net, making 24 of 27 hits with 14 kills and blocking seven shots against the Lady Vikes.

Carrie Hefty would be perfect at the serving line with 16 of 16 serves with a pair of aces, along with a blocked shot, as well as dishing out 32 assists to her teammates.

Kenzie Banwart would make seven of seven hitting attempts with two kills and blocked three shots, while Erica Fehr made eight of 10 serves with an ace and dug out 17 shots.

WBM’s netters open tournament play Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Laurens against Laurens-Marathon.
