E’Hawks Heading East To West Fork
Friday night marks the final road game of the regular season for the Emmetsburg E’Hawks. Once again, the big bus will head east for another 90-mile trip to Rockwell and the home of the West Fork Warhawks.
Coming off a game where the E’Hawks outgained Belmond-Klemme by 499 yards, one might think that winless West Fork would be a game that Emmetsburg can afford to look past.
Such is not the case, however.
“We have to continue to get better as a team,”?noted E’Hawk Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “We work every day in practice to become better individuals so we can continue to get better as a team.”
While Dunlap noted last Friday’s win over Belmond-Klemme was a great team effort, the win is past history.
“Our goal every week is to be 1-0 at the end of the week,”?Dunlap said simply. “We want to become the best disciplined offense, defense and special teams that we can.”
Looking at the Warhawks, Dunlap notes that defensively, West Fork will work out of the traditional 5/2 defensive alignment, nothing out of the ordinary for the E’Hawks to work against.
“It will be important for us to control the lines of scrimmage, both offensively and defensively, right away on Friday night,”?Dunlap reiterated.
West Fork’s offense is a different look, based on the single -wing offense that uses a spinner back.
“They also run out of a trips set and unbalanced set on offense,” Dunlap noted, “but they run the ball.”
With this being the final long road game of the regular season, it will be important, as always, for the E’Hawks to be focused and get off the bus ready to go on Friday night.
“We will need to eliminate the mental mistakes, clean up the penalties, and be ready to play from the outset,” Dunlap noted. “West Fork is a quality team and we can’t look past them. We have to play our best game of the year so we can be 1-0 at the end of the week, just like we want to be at the end of every week.”
