E’Hawk JV Downs Spirit Lake

Emmetsburg’s E’Hawk sophomore squad earned a 40- shutout over Spirit Lake on Sept. 21 to improve their record to 4-0 on the season.

The young E’Hawks opened with fullback Bobby Gappa making an eight yard run for a score. Quarterback Ryan Kliegl ran in the conversion for an 8-0 lead after one quarter.

Kliegl would strike in the second quarter, scoring off a 22 yard run, only to see the conversion fail for a 14-0 lead. Emmetsburg would add to their score when Arthur Heldt found paydirt after a four-yard run, but again, the conversion failed, giving the E’Hawks a 20-0 lead at the intermission.

In the second half of the contest, Coach Dave Fog’s team struck again with a 23 yard run by Bobby Gappa, who ran in the conversion for a 28-0 advantage.

Arthur Heldt would strike a second time as well, this time scoring on an 18-yard effort, only to see the conversion come up short for a 34-0 lead to start the final quarter.

The last stanza would see Gappa add one more score to the coffers, off a 10 yard run, but the conversion try came up short to give Emmetsburg the 40-0 shutout over the Indians.

Bobby Gappa would lead the rushing attack by gaining 209 yards off 19 rushing attempts. Ryan Kliegl would carry the ball 12 times in the win, gaining 105 yards Arthur Heldt added 79 yards off eight rushing attempts and Jake Stubbs added 31 yards off five rushing attempts for the E’Hawks in the victorious effort.

Ryan Kliegl would complete five of eight passes for 111 yards to give Emmetsburg a total offensive performance of 535 yards in the victory.

Defensively, Jake Stubbs would intercept a pair of Spirit Lake passes, while Tyler Thornbury added four quarterback sacks to the E’Hawks’ defensive effort. Bobby Gappa and Jake Carlson would lead Emmetsburg’s defense in tackles in the winning effort.
