By Staff | Oct 6, 2009

GRAETTINGER – A stubborn defensive stand at the end of the game would give Graettinger/Terril a 29-28 win over Laurens-Marathon in Eight-Man District Two action Friday night. The Knights improve to 3-1 in the district and 5-1 overall on the year as they prepare for a meeting with old rivals West Bend-Mallard in Graettinger on Friday night.

The Knights and the Chargers would trade scores in the first quarter and entered the second quarter tied up at 8-8. Graettinger/Terril would take the lead with a pair of strikes in the quarter to lead 21-14 at the intermission. Neither team would find the end zone in the third quarter, but in the final frame, Graettinger Terril would add another score for a 29-21 lead, only to have Laurens-Marathon come back and score to trail by a point.

The Chargers would get the ball with time winding down, and marched to the Knights’ two-yard line, only to be stopped by the determined Graettinger/Terril defense as the horn sounded to end the game with the win for the Knights.

Nate Howard would be the workhorse for Graettinger/Terril with 24 rushes for 243 yards and three touchdowns. Drew Skattebo added 12 carries for 87 yards and Cody Dyhrkopp had 14 rushes for 54 yards and a touchdown, as the Knights racked up 373 total yards of offense to Laurens-Marathon’s 281 yards.
