Placekick, Punt &?Pass This Saturday

The Emmetsburg Parks and Recreation Department will once again sponsor the annual Placekick, Punt &?Pass competition this Saturday, Sept. 26. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. with competition to follow at the old Middle School Football Field in Emmetsburg.

The competition includes throwing two passes for accuracy and distance, as well as two place kicks and two punts, all for distance and accuracy.

Each contestant attempts to kick, punt or throw as straight as possible, A measurement is taken for straight distance, and points are deducted for distance off to either side of a straight line.

The total distances of the three best efforts by each competitor are totaled to determine the winners in the various age groups.

The competition is open to boys and girls between the ages of eight and 13, as of the date of the competition. Boys and girls will compete separately, by age groups.

The top three finishers in each age group, boys and girls, will qualify to advance to the district competition, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 10 in Sioux City, At the district level, the top three finishers in each division and age group will qualify to advance to the state competition, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Bergstrom Indoor Practice Facility on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames.

A small participation fee is required for the competition and is due at the time of registration.
