The 2009 football season started out with a hard-fought victory for the Emmetsburg Freshmen on Aug. 31. Coach Tyler Beving’s Freshmen overgame an early deficit to defeat Storm Lake by a 28-18 final score.

Storm Lake’s Tornadoes came out on fire to start the game, and took offensive control of the game, scoring two touchdowns in the first half for a 12-0 lead at the halftime break.

After making some adjustments, the E’Hawks began to fight back. Quarterback Jake Jackson would end up throwing for 49 yards and a passing touchdown, as well as rushing for 136 yards with a touchdown. On the defensive side, Jackson intercepted a Storm Lake pass and returned it for an E’Hawk touchdown.

“We didnt come out and play the way we wanted to,” admitted Coach Beving. “We have some work to do, but I am proud of our guys for never quiting and coming to together to pull out the victory.”
