E’Hawk Harriers Open Season

By Staff | Aug 26, 2009

Emmetsburg Cross Country Coach Dan Dooley welcomes a growing group of runners to the cross country campaign this season, with several new faces joining the ranks of the girls and boys squads.

A total of eight letterwinners return to lead the two squads this season, headed up by state qualifier Rachael Moore, a sophomore. The Lady E’Hawks are led by team captain Blake Schany a senior. Other returning letterwinners are Tacee Leebens and Teanna Leebens along with Tayler Bruns. Newcomers to the squad are Lauren Zimmerman and Caroline Flom.

For the E’Hawk boys, senior captain Jared Janssen is joined by Allen Dunnick and Chad Loomis from last year’s squad. Also turning out for the E’Hawks are Max Jones, Austin Dunnick, Wesley Luna-Smith, Zach Overberg and Daniel Pelzer.

“Our boys squad looks very strong this year,”?noted Dooley. “We have a total of eight runners so that we will have, for the first time, more than enough runners for a full boys team. The three returning letterwinners look really good so far and I am expecting great things from the whole crew.”

The Lady E’Hawks appear to be on track as well, according to the Head Coach. “The girls are once again very strong. This could be the year we have quite a few going to the state meet. There are some members on the squad who have been working very hard all summer long and it is showing in workouts. All in all, I am very proud of all my athletes.”

Emmetsburg opens its cross country season tonight (Tuesday) in an appearance at Spencer. The meet will be run at the Spencer Municipal Golf Course at 5 p.m.
