The sound of racing engines, go-kart style, filled the air on the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds Sunday afternoon. The inagural races of the Emmetsburg Raceway and the Emmetsburg Karting Association attracted some 16 karts to the newly-constructed track at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds.

Competition was held in the Putt-Putt class, as well as Rookie, Junior I, Junior II and Adult classes.

Emmetsburg Karting Association President Kevin Long and Vice President Arvin Sidles were both pleased with the turnout for the initial race of the track.

“Hopefully, word will start to get around and we’ll see more karts coming to town,”?Long noted.

Races will also be held on Sunday, July 5 and July 19, before a special Fair race during the Palo Alto County Fair on Sunday, July 26. Races will also be held on Sundays in August 2, 16 and 30. Registration will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30, on race days, with hot laps starting at 12:30 p.m. and racing to follow.

The regular racing program will consist of heat, or preliminary flight races, and Feature events, where the top three finishers will receive trophies.
