G/T Girls Edge Lady Mustangs

By Staff | Jun 9, 2009

TERRIL – The Graettinger/Terril softball team came up with a way to beat the high-flying Armstrong-Ringsted Lady Mustangs last Wednesday. G/T was able to hit the ball and take a 3-2 win over the Mustangs to improve to 2-0 in the Cornbelt and 3-1 overall.

A big inning in the fourth was the difference for the Knight girls on Wednesday. A single and three doubles would provide the offensive spark to give Graettinger/Terril what they needed to come up with the win.

“The girls connected well with the ball and found the holes,” said Greaettinger/Terril Head Coach Stephanie Hanson.

Armstrong-Ringsted would score first in the contest, but Graetttinger/Terril would erase the Mustang’s lead with the big fourth inning.

Graettinger/Terril led off the fourth frame with Theresa Petersen rapping out a single. Dakota Hovinga stepped up and poundedout a one-out double to tie the game and Knight hurler Malorie Girres got in her own licks with an RBI double to score Hovinga.

Maddy Schany punched out an RBI double to bring Girres home before the inning ended to give the Knights the 3-2 lead.

Graettinger/Terril’s defense would hold firm the rest of the way out, stranding several Mustang batters on the way to claiming the 3-2 win.

Malorie Girres earned the win for the Knights, as she allowed four hits and collected two strikeouts with the two hits, while walking two and hitting one batter.
