SIBLEY – After a loss in their season opener, The Graettinger/Terril girls softball team got their game with an 11-2 victory over the Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan in action Thursday night.

The Knights found their bats early in the contest and made good use of their at-bat opportunities.

Graettinger/Terril started out with an early 2-0 lead after one inning of play, but then went cold until the fifth frame of the contest, when they uncorded four runs.

Another three runs would be scored in the top of the sixth inning, and the Knights then capped off the game with a pair of runs coming home in the seventh frame.

All told, Graettinger/Terril would finish the game with a total of nine hits on the nights, a fact that pleased Knights Coach Stephanie Hanson. “I wasn’t really sure what to expect from their pitcher-she threw about medium speed. We came out hitting the ball hard.”

Senior Malorie Girres picked up the win in the circle, striking out five batters while giving up five hits but no walks.

Leading the offense for Graettinger/Terril was Tasha Neilson, who had three hits, including a double, out of her four trips to the batters’ box. Morgan Matthews added three of five hits with a double to her credit, while Maddie Schany went two of four and Mal Girres had a hit.
