June(ior) Golf Offering Exciting Youth Programs

With summer vacation now underway around the area, children looking for an activity are being invited to join in the fun of June(ior) Golf!

A variety of opportunities for youth to learn and enjoy the game of golf during the month of June through some programs designed especially for young people.

Starting the month will be the annual Smith Scholarship Foundation Junior Golf Program at the Five Island Golf Course in Emmetsburg. The Smith Junior Golf Program offers children a basic education in the rules of golf, etiquette and technique on four Mondays in June from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. A tournament will be played for the program participants on June 29.

Kids can golf free the entire month of June when registered for the Smith Scholarship Program. Volunteers are needed to assist with this program. Please call 711-852-3422 to register or for more information.

A new offering for youth is the Palo Alto County Junior Golf Tour.

This youth tour is open to girls and boys in the age groups of seven to nine, 10 to 12 and 13-17. These youth can sign up to golf for a five-week period on Tuesday mornings during the month of June. The tour will visit the West Bend, Mallard, Graettinger and Emmetsburg golf courses, allowing the youth a chance to experience new courses and test their skills.

Capping off the month of June and Junior Golf Month, several local junior high and high school artists will have various items of their works on public display at the Five Island Golf Course Clubhouse in Emmetsburg.

The public is invited to view the exhibit, made possible by the Smith Foundation’s Youth Art Exhibit.
