Lady Wolverines Qualify Seven Events For State Track Championships
WEST?BEND – West Bend-Mallard/Twin River Valley’s Lady Wolverine track and field squad will send one relay and four individuals to this week’s State Track and Field Championships in Des Moines following last Friday’s Class 1A Regional Track meet at Laurens.
The sister duo of Missy and Jessica Abrahamson both qualified for state in the shot put and discus events. Missy won the event with a 38’5” throw, a new shared and WBM record, as well as a personal best. Jessica finished third with a 34’9.5″ throw and both will compete at 9 a.m. Thursday in the 1A girls shot.
In the discus, Missy finished second with a throw of 109’9” and Jessica placed fifth overall with a 103’3″ throw. The 1A discus will be thrown on Friday at 9 a.m. at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The Lady Wolverines will also send Kaley Lempke to state in the 100 meter dash, as she won the Regional with a time of :13.28. Lempke will run at 10:40 a.m. Thursday in Drake Stadium.
Brooke Bennett earned a first place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:49.54, a new TRV and sharing record, as well as a personal best effort. Bennett will run at 9:40 a.m. Thursday at the state meet.
The Lady Wolverines also qualified their Distance Medley Relay for the state meet with a second place finish at Laurens in 4:39.20. Members of the relay are Michaela Grimm, Laura Smith, Amanda Frieden and Brooke Bennett. The foursome will run at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Other efforts at the Regional meet in Laurens included Sara Foley in the 3000 meter run with a third place finish in 12:32.16, a personal record. The 4×200 relay, with Shayla Simms, Kaley Lempke, Michaela Grimm and Laura Smith, placed third with a 1:54.08 time and the 4×100 relay, with Shayla Simms, Laura Smith, Kaley Lempke and Michaela Grimm, placed fourth in :54.28.
Shayla Simms was fourth in the 100 meter dash in :13.71, while Wendy Grimm earned fourth place in the 400 meter dash with a :68.61 and a fifth place in the 200 meter dash with a :29.20 effort and Sara Foley earned fifth in the 1500 meter run with a 5:55.85 clocking.
The Sprint Medley, with Megan Foth, Missy Abrahamson, Wendy Grimm and Amanda Frieden placed fifth in 2:03.82, while the 4×800 relay, with Bailey Cavanaugh, Sarah Eubank, Sarah Berte and Haley Banwart, finished with a 12:05.85 time for seventh place.
Bailey Cavanaugh earned a seventh place finish in the 400 hurdles with a :79.48 effort and rounding out WBM/TRV’s finishes at the Regional meet was the 4×400 relay of Amanda Frieden, Elsie Howe, Sarah Eubank and Sarah Berte with a 4:56.69 clocking.
Other efforts came from Wendy Grimm and a long jump of 13’1.25″, while Bailey Cavanaugh set a new personal best in the 100 hurdles with a :20.12 time, while Elsie Howe ran the 100 hurdles in :20.57.
