Lady E’Hawks Claim 2A?District Title

POCAHONTAS – The Lady E’Hawks of Emmetsburg started their post season on the links in solid fashion Monday, earning the Class 2A District Championship at the Pocahontas Golf and Country Club.

Emmetsburg won the tournament with a team total 398, some 26 strokes better than second-place St. Edmonds of ?Fort Dodge with a 424.

East Sac County was third with a 435, while Okoboji was fourth with a 449. Manson Northwest Webster was fifth with a 457, while Sioux Central shot a 457 for sixth place and Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer was seventh with a 505 stroke total.

Emmetsburg’s Jenny Hoch earned the meet medalist honors with rounds of 52 and 43 for a for a 95, one stroke better than Hilary Jones of Manson Northwest Webster, who shot a pair of 48’s for a 96. Blair Iverson of Eagle Grove shot a 67 and 62 for a 97 for third place honors, but Emmetsburg’s Megan Myers shot a 47 and 53 for a 100 and tied with teammate Lauren Zimmerman, who shot rounds of 56 and 44 for a 100.

The top five golfers advance to Regional Medalist competition next Tuesday at the Primghar Golf and Country Club.

Other scoring for Emmetsburg included Krista Peaslee with rounds of 55 and 48 for a 103, Janna Hoch with rounds of 54 and 53 for a 107 and Ashley Pelzer with rounds of 61 and 60 for a 121.

“Coming out of the always tough Lakes Conference has been very beneficial for us,”?noted Head Coach Ted Riley. “We just keep working hard and keep trying to do the right things down the stretch.”

Action on May 26 begins at 9 a.m. in Primghar.
