E’Hawk Golfers Play In Conference Tournaments

OKOBOJI – Emmetsburg’s E’Hawks earned a third place finish at the Lakes Conference Boys Golf Meet Monday afternoon at Brooks National Golf Course. One member of the E’Hawk squad earned All Conference Honors at the conclusion of the 18-hole tournament.

Arthur Heldt carded round of 41 and 37 for a 78 stroke total to finish ninth overall in the individual scoring for the All Conference honor. Spencer’s Jay Monahan was the medalist of the event, shooting a 70 on the day.

For Emmetsburg, Heldt’s rounds of 41 and 37 for the 78 led the way on Monday. Tyler Kliegl carded rounds of 40 and 40 for an 80, while Ben McCain shot a 41 and a 39 for an 80 stroke total. Matt Wellik carded a 43 and a 39 for an 82, while Robbie Myers shot rounds of 43 and 41 for an 84, while Matt Ballman carded rounds of 42 and 45 for an 87 to round out the E’Hawk scoring.

Emmetsburg will take to the links on Friday at the Lakeside Golf Course north of Fort Dodge for the Class 2A Sectional Tournament. The E’Hawks will compete with Clarion-Goldfield, Eagle Grove, Humboldt, Manson Northwest Webster, Pocahontas Area /Pomeroy-Palmer, Sioux Central and Fort Dodge St. Edmonds. Tee time is at 10 a.m. The top two teams from Friday’s Sectional advance to the 2A District meet on Friday, May 22, at Lake Creek Country Club in Storm Lake.

On the other side of the lake, the Lady E’Hawks came home with a second place finish in the Girls Lakes Conference tournament at Okoboji View Golf Course on Monday. Emmetsburg shot a 384 to finish behind Spirit Lake with a 354.

The Lady E’Hawks also earned a pair of All Conferrence finishes in the event, as Janna Hoch and Megan Myers would both earn the elite honors. Hoch shot rounds of 47 and 43 for a 90 and Myers carded rounds of 48 and 44 for a 92 to make the All Conference squad.

Emmetsburg’s team effort was led by Janna Hoch’s 47 and 43 for a 90, while Megan Myers’ 48 and 44 equalled a 92. Jenny Hoch carded rounds of 49 and 47 for a 96 stroke total, while Lauren Zimmerman added a 55 and a round of 51 for a 106 stroke total.

Krista Peaslee shot rounds of 54 and 56 for a 110 and Hannah Drost shot rounds of 57 and 60 for a 117 stroke total to round out the effort.

The Lady E’Hawks will play a final tuneup match on Friday at Estherville against ELC before they enter Class 2A District Tournament play on Monday, May 18, at Pocahontas. Participating teams will include Eagle Grove, East Sac County, Fort Dodge St. Edmonds, Manson Northwest Webster, Okoboji, Sioux Central, the Lady E’Hawks and Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer.

Regional Tournament action will be played on Tuesday, May 26, at the Primghar Golf and Country Club.
