Lady Wolverines Win Conference
WEST BEND – The 2009 Cornbelt Conference Girls Track Championship was claimed by the West Bend-Mallard/Twin River Valley Lady Wolverines following the league meet on Monday, May 4. Coach Jamie Fehr’s squad scored 129 points to take the championship, eight points better than North Sentral Kossuth, who finished second with 117 points.
The Lady Wolverines came up with several first place finishes, starting with Missy Abrahamson, who took first in the shot with a throw of 36’1.5” to become a three-time Conference Champion in the event, and also finished first in the discus with a throw of 106′. Brooke Bennett won the 3000 meter run in 12:03.15, a new record for TRV and for the shared program, as well as a personal best mark. The Lady Wolverines also placed first in the 4×200 meter relay, as the quartet of Shayla Simms, Kaley Lempke, Laura Smith and Michaela Grimm, turned in a 1:54.71, a new sharing record.
Jessica Abrahamson would earn second in the shot put, throwing 34’2″, while Michaela Grimm took second in the 100 meter dash with a time of :13.82.
The Sprint Medley Relay, with Megan Foth, Missy Abrahamson, Wendy Grimm and Amanda Frieden, set a new sharing record with their 2:02.36 time, which was good for second place. The 4×100 relay, with Simms, Smith, Lempke and Michaela Grimm, also took second and set a new sharing record with their :54.83 clocking.
The 4×800 relay, with Frieden, Sarah Berte, Haley Banwart and Sarah Eubank, took third place with an 11:51.15. Laura Smith placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of :28.71, while Jessica Abrahamson was third in the discus with a throw of 99′, a new personal record. Kaley Lempke took third in the 100 meter dash with a :13.87 effort and Brook Bennett placed third in the 1500 meter run with her time of 5:42.85.
The 4×400 team of Laura Smith, Shayla Smith, Sarah Eubank and Sarah Berte, took fourth place honors with a time of 4:50.15 and the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, with Bailey Cavanaugh, Elsie Howe, Simms and Madi Dahlhauser, finished with a 1:21.77 for a fourth place finish. Michaela Grimm earned fourth in the 200 meter dash with a :29.04 and Bailey Cavanaugh was fourth in the 400 hurdles with an :81.16 time.
The Distance Medley, Howe, Megan Foth, Eubank and Cavanaugh, finished fifth in 5:15.88, while Frieden took fifth in the 400 meter dash with a :65.44 time and Sara Foley placed sixth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:55.04, a new personal record and then took sixth in the 1500 meter run with a 5:53.10, another personal record.
