County Teams Run At Jon Larson Relays

ARMSTRONG – Thursday’s Jon Larson Relays at Armstrong provided three Palo Alto County Schools a good challenge. Competing against schools such as North Sentral Kossuth, Ventura, Armstrong-Ringsted, North Iowa, Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne and Bishop Garrigan, the West Bend-Mallard/Twin River Valley, Ruthven-Ayrshire and Graettinger/Terril track squad all gave good efforts in blustery conditions.

For the Lady Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/TRV, the day’s outing was especially rewarding for Coach Jamie Fehr’s squad, as they finished second in the team standings behind North Iowa.

Missy Abrahamson took first place honors in both the discus and shot put, as she threw the disc 114’3.5” for a new school record and personal best mark, and added a 35’2.5″ shot put throw to her collection of top finishes.

Jennica Ruppert earned second place in the shot put, throwing the orb 32’10“.

The 4×200 relay, comprised of Shaya Simms, Kaley Lempke, Laura Smith and Michaela Grimm, took second place honors with a time of 1:57.26.

Sara Foley finished third in the 3000 meter run with a time of 13:15.39 and in the 100 meter dash, Kaley Lempke took third place with a time of :14.10, and Michaela Grimm finished second in the 200 meter dash with a :29.41 effort.

Brooke Bennett earned fourth place honors in the 1500 meter run with her 5:49.19 effort. Jessica Abrahamson placed fourth in the discus, throwing 96’9″, a new personal record.

The 4×800 relay, with Sarah Eubank, Bailey Cavanaugh, Haley Banwart and Sarah Berte, took fourth place with their 12:45.65 effort and the Sprint Medley Relay, with Jenny Auten, Missy Abrahamson, Megan Foth and Amanda Frieden, took fourth place with a 2:07.61 clocking.

Wendy Grimm earned a trio of fifth place finishes for the Lady Wolverines. In the 400 dash, Grimm turned in a :70.22 clocking and in the 200 dash she finished with a :31.18 effort and capped off her day with a new personal record in the long jump, leaping 13’9.75” for the fifth place finish.

The Shuttle Hurdle Relay of Bailey Cavanaugh, Elsie Howe, Shayla Simms and Madi Dahlhauser, took fifth in 1:22.43, while the 4×100 relay, with Shayla Simms, Laura Smith, Kaley Lempke and Michaela Grimm earned fifth with a time of :58.20. the 4×400 relay, comprised of Jenny Auten, Sarah Eubank, Elsie Howe and Sarah Berte also finished fifth in a time of 5:09.65.

Sara Foley would place sixth in the 1500 meters, finishing in 6:01.26, a new personal record.

Other personal records included a 13’1.5″ leap in the long jump for Shayla Simms and a 3:07.06 time in the 800 meter run for Haley Banwart.

Megan Foth ran the 100 meter dash in :15.2, while Madi Dahlhauser ran the 100 hurdles in :20.21 and Bailey Cavanaugh ran the 100 hurdles in :21.21. Sarah Eubank finished the 800 meter run in 3:04.05 and Baily Cavanaugh finished the 400 hurdles in :85.99.

Graettinger/Terril also had solid efforts on Thursday as well. The Distance Medley Relay, with Dakota Hovinga, Tasha Neilson, Lindsay Flaharty and Amanda Oleson, took fourth place with a 4:58.42 time, while the 4×400 relay, with Alisha Simington, Hailey Nelson, Dakota Hovinga and Lindsay Flaharty, also finished fourth in a time of 4:51.22.

Lindsay Flaharty earned fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of :30.30 and the Sprint Medley Relay, with Hailey Nelson, Lindsay Flaharty, Dakota Hovinga and Tasha Neilson, took fifth in a time of 2:09.06.

Jassi Mehrengani placed sixth in the 400 meter dash with a 1:10.64 time and Amanda Oleson ran the 800 meters in 2:51.80.

For the Knight boys, Morton Utoft finished the 400 meter dash in fourth place with his :57.98 effort. Michael Lynch set two personal best marks in the shot put and discus, as he threw the shot 26’5” and added a discus throw of 56’11”.

West Bend-Mallard/TRV’s boys finished in seventh place overall, getting a first place in the 3200 meter run from Jack Riesenberg in 11:10.4 and a third place from the 4×100 relay, with Clay Douglas, Logan Streit, Sean Riesenberg and Mitch Bonnstetter, with a :49.68.

Jack Riesenberg took fourth in the 1600 meter run with a 5:21.7, while the 4×800 relay, with Collin Thatcher, Tom Putensen, Jordan Knobloch and Sean Riesenberg, finished fourth in 10:07 and the Medley Relay, with Clay Douglas, Logan Streit, Mitch Bonnstetter and Jack Riesenberg was fourth in 4:27.

The 4×200 relay of Clay Douglas, Logan Streit, Sean Riesenberg and Mitch Bonnstetter, took fifth with a 1:44.4 and the 4×400 relay with Aaron Johnson, Tom Putensen, Jordan Knobloch and Collin Thatcher, was fifth with a 4:22.6

Collin Thatcher would round out the Wolverines placings on Thursday by finishing the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:29.
