E’Hawk Thinclads Third At Spirit Lake

SPIRIT?LAKE – Emmetsburg’s E’Hawks earned a third place finish at Tuesday’s Iowa Great Lakes Invitational meet at Spirit Lake. The meet also gave two E’Hawk entries a chance for a final tuneup before this weekend’s Drake Relays in Des Moines.

“We are starting to get some consistency as far as times being where they need to be,” noted E’Hawk Head Coach Tyler Beving. “But, We also can’t stay satisfied with that. If the guys keep staying hungry and keep getting better, we will be where we need to be by the end of the regular season.”

Both of the E’Hawks’ Drake Relays qualified events won their respective competitions on Tuesday, starting with the Shuttle Hurdle Relay. The foursome of Jake Morris, Justin DeFord, Joey Naig and Trevor Dettmann ran away from the competition with a :60.77.

Trevor Dettmann also won the 110 high hurdles, cruising to a :15.00 win in the event.

Emmetsburg’s 4×200 relay unit of Justin DeFord, Taylor Morris, Cory Schultes and Tommy Kuecker, earned second place at the wire with its time of 1:34.5 and the 4×100 relay, comprised of Taylor Morris, Trevor Dettmann, Cory Schultes and Tommy Kuecker, claimed second place with a :46.21 clocking.

Justin DeFord also earned a second place finish in the 200 meter dash with his :23.16 effort, while Jake Morris placed third in the 400 meter low hurdles with a :59.95 time. Lucas Thomsen would earn third place in the shot put for the E’Hawks, finishing with a throw of 44’10” and Taylor Morris earned third in the long jump, leaping 19’4″.

Josh Wolfe finished fourth in the discus, throwing 126’6“, while Jake Morris finished the 110 high hurdles in :15.9 for a fourth place finish. Tommy Kuecker took fourth in the 200 meter dash with a :23.8 clocking, while the 4×400 relay, comprised of Justin DeFord, Langston Jones, Keaton Carter and Tommy Kuecker finished fourth with their 3:36.8 clocking.

Trevor Dettmann earned fifth in the long jump, leaping 19′, while the 1600 meter medley group of Langston Jones, Taylor Morris, Cory Schultes and Jake Carlson, finished fifth in 3:59.00.

Rounding out the finishes were Jared Janssen in the high jump, clearing 5’6″?for sixth place and the 4×800 relay of Bobby Gappa, Justin Studer, Jared Janssen and Jake Carlson, taking sixth in a time of 9:39.2, while Cory Schultes placed sixth in the 100 meter dash with an :11.8 clocking.

Other efforts included 3200 meter runs of 11:50.3 by Allen Dunnick and a 12:19.9 by Chad Loomis. Langston Jones ran the 100 meter dash in a time of :12.2, while Keaton Carter ran the 400 meters in :57.36 and Justin Hotchkiss finished the 400 with a :58.36 time.

In the 800 meters, Jared Janssen finished with a 2:20.8 and Bobby Gappa ran a 2:20.4, while in the 1600 meters, Allen Dunnick ran a 5:31.4 and Chad Loomis turned in a 5:47.3.

Austin Oppenheimer ran the 400 low hurdles in a time of 1:02.5, while JC?Rezabek turned in a shot put throw of 38’6” and Lucas Thomsen threw the discus 114’8″.
