Lady E’Hawks Second At LeMars In First Outdoor Meet Of Season
LEMARS – After waiting over two weeks to get back into competition, the Lady E’Hawks of Emmetsburg finally got to compete outdoors on Monday. A trip to the Shilling Co-Ed Invitational in LeMars resulted in a second place finish for Coach Dan Dooley’s tracksters.
Emmetsburg, a 2A school, took second behind 4A Sioux City East, and finished ahead of 3A school LeMars and 4A schools Sioux City North, Sioux City West and Bishop Heelan.
“It was so good to be able to get outside to compete, and then when you figure that we were running against 3A and 4A teams, our finishes were great efforts,” noted Dooley. “We’ve seen where we’re at and now we know what work we have cut out ahead of us.”
Katelyn Schany earned first place in the discus, throwing 95’4” and the Shuttle Hurdle Relay squad of Katie Malm, Nicole Leuer, Bailee Moore and Kayla Herbers claimed first place with their 1:08.58 time.
As a sidelight, the shuttle hurdle time is currently the eighth fastest in the state and could possibly qualify for the Drake Relays next weekend.
Rachael Moore took second place in the long jump, leaping 14’9″, while Blake Schany was second in the 400 meter hurdles with a 1:13.37 time and Jayme Penrod took second in the high jump, clearing 4’6“.
Kayla Herbers took second in the 100 meter hurdles with a :16.39 and teammate Nicole Leuer was right behind with a :17.27 effort for third place.
The Lady E’Hawks got a second in the 4×200 relay, as the quartet of Penrod, Mollie Smith, Katie Malm and Herbers finished with a 1:51.90 effort. The 4×400 relay of Kaitlin Weisbrod, Blake Schany, Bailee Moore and Kaity Degen took second with a 4:31.65 and the 4×800 relay, with Katie Kassel, Weisbrod, Blake Schany and Rachael Moore also took second with a time of 11:30.43.
Morgan Vlasman earned third place in the high jump, clearing 4’4″ and the Sprint Medley, comprised of Mollie Smith, Jordan Kerber, Malm and Herbers was third with a 1:58.86 time.
Mollie Smith was fourth in the 100 meter dash with a :13.08 time and Jordan Kerber placed ninth with a :13.48 clocking. Racheal Moore finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:40.23 and then took fourth in the 1500 meter run with a 5:29.02 effort.
Emmetsburg’s 4×100 relay, with Penrod, Maddison Woodruff, Smith and Kerber, finished fourth with a time of :53.69.
Other finishes included Maddison Woodruff with a seventh place finish in the 200 meter dash from her :28.94 time, while Katie Malm finished the 200 in :29.43 for the ninth place finish. Tacee Leebens placed eighth in the 400 meter dash with a 1:08.74 time and Katie Kassel finished the 800 meter run with a time of 3:17.11 for 11th place.
Tayler Bruns was seventh in the 3000 meter run with a 14:46.32 time and Bailee Moore earned eighth place in the shot put, throwing 24′ 1/2″ in her first-every competition in the event.
Emmetsburg’s Junior Varsity got a 3:09.76 finish from Kaitlin Weisbrod in the 800 meter run and the JV 4×200 relay, with Morgan Vlasman, Nicole Leuer, Maddison Woodruff and Bailee Moore, turned in a 1:56.11 clocking.
The Lady E’Hawks will compete this Friday, April 17, at the Spencer Girls’ Invitational. Action gets underway at Dale Norton Field in Spencer at 5 p.m.
