Meyer Joins State’s Basketball Elite

Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Loren Meyer joined the elite ranks of Hall of Famers last Saturday night in ceremonies at the 2009 State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines.

Loren Meyer was a two-time All-State selection, a two-time high school All-American and the 1991 Naismith Award winner as Iowa’s most outstanding prep player. As a senior he led the state in scoring with a 40.9 ppg scoring with 813 points. He also collected 300 rebounds and blocked 120 shots. For his career he posted a “1K double” – 1,996 points and 1,096 rebounds. He also rejected 381 shots.

He played on Iowa’s select AAU team three years. He went on to star at Iowa State as a three-year regular. He ranks in the top 16 on ISU’s career list in scoring, rebounds and blocked shots. He was the 24th selection in the 1995 NBA draft and played four seasons with Dallas, Phoenix and Denver and one year in Europe with the Chester (England) Jets.
