Spot Shot Competition Set For This Sunday

The Emmetsburg Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Iowa Parks and Recreation Association, will once again sponsor a youth basketball Spot Shot competition on Sunday, March 15, at the Smith Wellness Center gymnasium in Emmetsburg. The competition will take place at 1:30 p.m., with registration starting at 1:15 p.m.

Registration forms are available at the Emmetsburg City Hall, 2021 Main Street, and may be filled in, along with parental waiver, prior to the day of the competition. A small participation fee is required to take part in the event.

The IPRA Spot Shot contest features six age categories for competition, including boys aged eight through 13 and Girls aged eight through 13. The age determination is determined by the date of the local competition.

In the competition, boys and girls will have 60 seconds to dribble from half court and shoot from seven different locations on the floor. Separate distances for the shots will be used for each group. Bonus points are awarded for shooting once or twice from all of the spots. Two rounds are shot and the points from each round are tallied to determine final points and placings.

The top two participants in each age category will earn the right to advance tot he state competition on Saturday, March 28, at the Grinnell Recreation and Athletic Center in Grinnell.
